Product Description

WELCOME TO FOO.

Fourteen-year-old Leven Thumps (a.k.a. "Lev") lives a wretched life in Burnt Culvert, Oklahoma. But his life is about to change and his destiny be fulfilled as he learns about a secret gateway that bridges two worlds -- the real world and Foo, a place created at the at the beginning of time in the folds of the mind that makes it possible for mankind to dream and hope, aspire and imagine. But Foo is in chaos, and three transplants from that dreamworld have been sent to retrieve Lev, who alone has the power to save Foo.

Enter Clover, a wisecracking, foot-high sidekick; Winter, a girl with a special power of her own; and Geth, the rightful heir to Foo. Their mission: to convince Lev that he has the power to save Foo. Can this unique band of travelers help Lev overcome his doubt? Will Lev find the gateway in time? Or will Sabine and his dark shadows find the gateway first and destroy mankind?

5 out of 5 stars Kasaiya from Lake Tapps says this book is way better than Harry Potter!   December 11, 2008

Need an adventure when you're bored? If you want an amazing, creative, daring, awesome, and yet funny journey, then you need to get the Leven Thumps series. Along with the author, Obert Skye, you will cross the threshold into Foo and might not return.
Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo is an amazing adventure story written by the awesome author, Obert Skye. With 368 pages this book is a definite, "Want to read this all night book."
My favorite part of the book is when Leven thump meets his sycophant (sick-o-funt) and later tries some of his weird candy for the very first time. Another one of my favorite parts is when Geth gets brought into the story as a toothpick.
An offing, a nit, a toothpick, and a sycophant. When they all meet for the first time they are trapped in awe because they finally figure out what they really are capable of. Then they get told that they must go to a place called Foo, a mystic land that you can mostly only enter accidently. But on their way to Foo, they get attacked by an avaland, a giant dirt lizard. But the offing, Leven Thump, use's his power to manipulate the future and kills the avaland with a splat! Then..... well you'll have to read the book to find out the rest. A couple books similar to this one is the Harry Potter series or the Leven thumps books 2, 3, and 4. I think ages 10-14 should read this book. I would recommend this book for anybody who would want a page turner to make you read it all night until you finish. And once you've read the first book, you'll have to read the rest of this great series.

Action packed, full of fun and a great romp.

Great for teens.

4 out of 5 stars Fresh new fantasy   September 25, 2008
A lot of people like to compete this book against Harry Potter for greatness. Well, I don't know about that, but I do know that Mr. Skye, however delusional he is, can certainly churn out the fantasy story, probably with even more creativity than Rowling. However, Rowling is a better writer than Skye, so I suppose I have to knock off a star for that.

But what remains is stellar. Skye claims the existance of a place in the folds of our minds: Foo. Foo is, essentially, the dream world, a very real place full of chosen humans who manipulate dreams. Feel free to cry cheesy, but it's cool and surprisingly logical.

However, the evil Sabine is trying to merge Foo and Reality, believing it would be a good thing. Those that know better retaliate and say that the merger will destroy both worlds. But of course evil doesn't care. So Fate flings out three+1 crucial characters into reality.

It's charming, fun, and delightfully quirky.

As an educator and mother, I think that this series is really interesting and quite good. I shop and buy these books for myself to read. I tell my children about them and then they ask for them to read. When they are done, we can chat about them as a family. They are very cleverly written.

At first I wasn't that sure I was going to like them as Harry Potter is not an easy act to follow. But, Leven Thumps is endearing. He is an unsuspecting hero. Which I like. Clover is just funny and sooo sweet. He gives Leven things and never tells him exactly what it is for. Leven always is surprised. Just very endearing story lines and characters. Give it a try. You may like it too!!

1 out of 5 stars Okay first book, Terrible series, just gets worse and worse...   March 24, 2008

Okay first book, Terrible series, just get worse and worse...
I bought all three and book two bugged me because it didn't have any boundries, such as a few birds can suddenly dig a ditch miles wide and hundreds of miles deep and every falls into it unharmed, on and on and finally hope, the last sentence of book two look promising. Ever been upset after reading something and learning that it was a dream, hence valueless? I have that feeling constantly. Book three took a dive right off the bat, and I had to quit half way through. I could not read his meandering waffle anymore. Sorry, I just feel cheated since the first book had promise, overlooking the animated toothpick.
Obert, if you read this, sorry, I think you should have rapped up your story in the first book. Ken
