Daniel At His Best November 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Daniel is like fine wine - getting even better with age, if that is possible. He is so versatile at singing country, pop, and inspirational music with equal clarity, mellowness, and expression. Whatever my soul needs, I can turn to Daniel's music for uplifting and refreshing. This CD, I believe, is one of his finest strictly country releases, and where he especially shines. Those backing him do a great job as usual.
I always loved John Denver's "Back Home Again" and never thought anybody could ever equal, let alone improve this beautiful song. Hearing both Daniel's and John's versions one after the other, I just love both so much, I consider it a draw. Both men with their uniquely pleasing voices have their own appeal.
There are several other selections that stand out for me, though every song is great: "Me and Bobby McGee, King of the Road, Detroit City, He Stopped Loving Her Today, Okie from Muskogee, I'm Just Lucky I Guess, Could I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life, and Oh Lonesome Me". "Release Me" is just so lovely, I am reminded why Daniel is my favorite vocalist. "Mother's Birthday Song" will certainly stir your emotions.
If you love the older and better-known country songs, I think you will approve and love Daniel's way with these hits. Also, there are duets with Daniel's favorite country singers, Loretta Lynn and Charlie Pride, so do buy and enjoy!!!
